Minutes from the MAPSS Winter meeting

January 29th, 2003: Tan Tara Resort

Outgoing President Dennis Meinert called the meeting to order in the Crystal Ballroom at 3:00pm.

Summary of last executive board meeting....

Bill Pauls read the minutes of the last meeting and gave the treasurer report. We have a total of $7,111.32 on hand in 3 accounts (savings, checking, and CD) at the Mizzou Credit Union in Columbia, Missouri. Bill encouraged everyone to check the website membersip list or the hard copy list here at the meeting and bring their dues up to date. $10 per year for full members, $100 lifetime; $5 for affiliates and associates, $50 lifetime associate and affiliate.

New Business:

The organization discussed the following items of business:

Smithsonian Institute Soils Monolith Display. A raffle is ongoing to rais funds. Three items are being raffled, a fishing rod, a pistol, and a ducks unlimited plate.

Tom & Kevin moved and Chuck seconded MAPSS rais $2,500 and ask Bass Pro then others as needed for the rest.

Election Held. Member-at-Large - Keith Davis President-elect Dick Henderson

Chuck Harwood - Discussion. Dept. of Health Standards (in law-definition of a soil scientist), test, MAPSS input. Soil site evaluator. MAPSS certification procedure.

Soil map for State capitol. Kevin would make frame. Kevin will look into.

Tony Dohman encourages group to look into nutrient management planning. More info from Tony. Professional employment possibility.

Tom Dewitt - NRCS Internet Training course on Nutrient management

Dave Skaer - Summer Meeting. Summer game. Tickets. About ten signified they were interested.

Kevin Godsey donated two probe cleaners to be auctioned. "The Colonel" came out of retirement to auction the items. $11 and $10 John Kabrick, John Bowers.

MAPSS Executive Board Meeting

May 6th, 2003

Meeting called to oder by President Thompson at 10:20

Minutes were read and approved. Keith moved Rod 2nd

Treasurer report - %5,606.51 6 month CD; $1737.03 checking; Savings $0.32. Total Assets: $7343.86

We are sponsoring the Menfro soil monolith for the Smithsonian Display project: $2,500.00. We are also recruiting other organizations or businesses to fund another $7,500.00 for the total amount required - $10,000.00

Secretary handed out Smithsonian project informatoin and referred the group to the web site. He also handed out soil planner calendars.

Leon will ask members to accept chairmanships of committees. See web site for chairpersons and all other MAPSS organization information www.showmemapss.org

State soil judging FFA jackets to the winning team (Buffalo) and high individual from Forsythe. Dick Henderson delivered the jackets to the Buffalo FFA banquet.

Sponsored the SW Envirothon $25 and ($50)tshirts. Ask membership if we need to do all regionals or state or continue like we are. At the winter meeting. Discuss the winter meeting at the next fall executive board mtg

Leon will look into the possibility of hosting a summer float trip in Current River, (Acres Ferry/Round Spring) Shannon County. Check the web site for information. Secretary will announce event if/when arranged. July/August

Greg Caldwell will provide another rod for raffle. Board approved. Bill moved, Rod seconded

Loan Soil Survey Work Planning Committee $400 to purchase food. MAPSS will be reimbursed. Moved by Rod, 2nd by Leon

Menfro - State Soil efforts ongoing. 2003 Progress during legislative session discussed
