Minutes from the MAPSS Fall/Winter meeting

January 30th, 2002: Tan Tara Resort

I cannot locate the file, which I recorded the minutes of this meeting. I have reconstructed this record from memory the following day. If anyone has additions or corrections, I welcome them.

I was unable to remember who made motions and seconds. I beg your indulgence and forgiveness. It is with regret that I offer my resignation if any member deems that appropriate AND will offer to replace me at the behest of the executive board. Otherwise, let's let bygones be bygones and I will try to do better in the future. I think I just forgot to save the damn thing. Or, my laptop got shut by mistake-duh! Anyway...

Outgoing President Jerry Gott called the meeting to order

Dave Skaer encouraged all members to behave themselves and conduct themselves in a professinal manner while attending the Natural Resources Conference.

Leon Thompson, executive board member gave a summary of the last executive board meeting

Bill Pauls gave treasurer report. We have a total of approx. $9,000.00 on hand in 3 accounts (checking, savings, CD) at the Mizzou Credit Union in Columbia, MO

We made approximately $1080 at this meeting from 3 sources; Dues, Sale of MAPSS merchandise, and the Auction. Colonel Skaer is to reprimanded for this behavior and congratulated for the success of the auction.

The organization approved the following items of business:

1) Sponsorship of the State Vocational Agriculture Soil Judging Team by purchase of a clothing item for the winning team and coach designating the team as state champion. Executive board will authorize apropriate amount of expenditure

2) Appointed a committee of Bill Pauls & Dan Childress to investigate expanding the MAPSS web site.

3) Appointed a committee of MU alums headed by Fred Young to draft a positive letter of inquiry to the University of Missouri School of Natural Resources concerning the restructuring of the department. It will be sent to as many levels of the University Administrative System as possible. This restructuring involved the elimination of the Soils curriculum at the Department level.

4)Election of Officers was held. Leon Thompson was elected Vice president/President-elect. Rod Taylor was elected as member-at-large to serve on the executive board. Following the election the members gave outgoing President, Jerry Gott, a warm round of applause as he left the Presidential podium and turned over the gavel to the incoming president Dennis Meinert.

5) The meeting was adjourned. Members enjoyed several presentations by speakers on an assortment of interesting topics

6) All members thoroughly enjoyed what has become a much anticipated event, the MAPSS Auction starring the one, the only Colonel Skaer. The Colonel once again lived up to the pre-auction hype making the auction not only a financial success (with $200 being raised), but a laugh success as well. I sincerely hope no one went away permanently traumatized. Congrats to Caryl Radatz for being the highest bidder of the evening by purchasing a float trip offered by president-elect Leon. A big second highst bidder thanks goes to Dennis Potter for his savy purchases, and to all of the bidders and providers of auction items. Well done.

7) The meeting was adjourned. Members volunteered to work in the MAPSS both at the Conference later in the evening and the following day. Thanks again for your volunteer sprit. I think the booth was an unqualified success. We made many contacts, provide a good deal of information and had a great time interacting with our natural resource partners from many disciplines

8)Special thanks for a job well done to Dennis Meinert, for his vision & hard work that made this all happen in the first place. Good Job Dennis.

Please email me with, what I am sure, are things I have misrepresented, distorted, neglected or just plain completely forgot. Thanks guys and gals, See you next time

Respectfully (albeit possibly inaccurately) submitted,
Bill Pauls MAPSS (egg on his face) secretary/treasurer
