Bob initiated using a local legend for farm plan mapping instead of the state legend.

Bob initiated block mapping for the Montgomery Co. area which led it to becoming a progressive survey.

He was one of the early pioneers in developing the soil/landscape relationship.

He was a charter member of MAPSS and developed the original Probeauger. His handle was know as “Ye Old Editor” and authored such great articles as “The great Prime farmland farse 1 & 2”, The trouble with soil survey reports, The over speak syndrome, Big brother speak.

Bob was my first supervisor and first training was drawing lines on field sheet. Hours later I finished and couldn’t wait to get to the field. He got up, pulled out another field sheet and said to draw while he erased the areas where my lines were wrong.

Told me which end of the pencil should be wore out first if I was doing my job right.

He said the Earth is God’s art work and we’d better make it look good, right or not- or God would be offended.
